American Revolution
Introduction:
Today's lesson will focus on the causes of the American Revolution. Throughout this unit, we will be learning about the outcomes and the effects the revolution had on the United States and its decision to declare independence from Great Britain.

1. Students will be able to describe the importance the American Revolution had on our freedom today.

1. Students will be able to critique primary and secondary sources to discover historical events during this time period.

1. The central focus of this lesson is for students to discover the cause of the American Revolution. While it can be assumed that we won the war, it is important everyone is able to discover why the war took place.

- Colonists wanted independence from the British.
- Neither side wanted to fight.
- Southern colonies were not interested in fighting.
- Patriots were considered treasonous.
- The loyalists stood out in their red coats.
- The Patriots did not win because they had more experienced militia, they won because they had the heart and the will to fight for their freedom.
- The loyalists did not have as much to fight for.

- Discuss as a class what each student comes up with.

- Students will spend the first 4 minutes of class writing down the essential question on the board and writing down their answers.
- The next six minutes will be for a class discussion to share thoughts.
